9th Circuit Court of Appeals Orders Castration of Idaho Pedophile

The good news is that, finally, a pedophile who preys on the underaged will be castrated. The bad news is, Idaho taxpayers will be forced to pay for it.

For those who argue that pedophiles who prey on children should be castrated, they are getting their wish.

“The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled the state of Idaho must provide gender confirmation surgery to Adree Edmo, an inmate housed at the Idaho Department of Corrections,” reports KIVI Boise.

Adree Edmo will be the first transgender inmate in the country to receive the surgery through a court order—at a cost of $20,000 to $30,000 to Idaho’s taxpayers.

As background, Edmo is a biological man who has ‘gender dysphoria‘ and is currently serving a 10-year sentence for sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy when Edmo was 22.

Although Edmo is currently to be released in 2021 and is not eligible for parole, according to Boise Public Radio (BPR), Edmo has been fighting to have Idaho pay for his sex reassignment surgery.

Edmo has twice attempted since 2015 to castrate himself while in prison to try to alleviate his symptoms of gender dysphoria and more closely conform his physical body to his female gender identity, reports BPR.

Rather than wait for his release in 2021 to pay for his own sex reassignment surgery, Edmo sued the state in 2017 contending that the state’s refusal to provide him with gender confirmation surgery amounts to cruel and unusual punishment and causes him severe distress because he has gender dysphoria.

As the case ended up before the 9th Circuit, Idaho argued that Edmo “is too mentally unstable to receive the irreversible medical procedure,” reported NBC News.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling “doesn’t mean that the Idaho Department of Correction will now have to provide gender confirmation surgery to all transgender inmates,” according to BPR. “Rather, it sets a standard for providing the surgery to certain inmates who experience severe gender dysphoria and for whom the surgery is deemed medically necessary.”

The case may head to the Supreme Court, however, as Idaho now has 90 days to appeal the ruling.

In addition, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has previously ruled prisoners are not entitled to gender reassignment surgery.

In the meantime, Idaho taxpayers are not happy with the idea of having to pay for the sex reassignment surgery.
