Hunter Biden, the center of the Democrats’ impeachment against President Donald Trump, has decided to pay his former lover child support payments, thereby avoiding contempt charges—for now.
Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, has reportedly reached an out-of-court temporary settlement in a child-support lawsuit filed by a mother of one of his children.
As the settlement was reached two days before he was ordered to appear in court and produce financial information for the last five years, Biden will not face contempt charges if he didn’t show up.
The younger Biden is at the center of the impeachment proceedings against President Trump as Democrats allege the President withheld nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine in part to try to force an investigation of Hunter’s reported $50,000-a-month job with the Burisma natural gas company.
Related to a prior Burisma investigation, in 2018, at a Council of Foreign Relations meeting, Hunter Biden’s father, former Vice President Joe Biden bragged about threatening to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid to Ukranians if the prosecutor who was investigating Burisma was not fired.
In his settlement, Biden has reportedly agreed to pay Lunden Roberts, a former stripper he met in a Washington D.C. strip club and with whom he fathered a child, ongoing child support, as well as child support going back to 2018.
‘Baby Doe’ was born in August 2018, while Hunter was dating Hallie Biden, the wife of his late brother Beau Biden, who passed away from brain cancer four years ago, according to Syracuse.com.
Biden, 48, has relinquished custody rights to the child he fathered with Roberts, 28, but he had continued to fight his financial obligations for the child, named “NJR” in court documents, reported the Washington Examiner last week.
Since then, despite living in a multi-million dollar mansion, Biden has no income.
“He’s doing the right thing by finally stepping up and paying what he should’ve been paying,” said Clint Lancaster, the attorney representing Ms. Roberts.
According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, the case is not over yet.
Under the agreement, Hunter Biden would be given until March 1 to submit any remaining relevant financial documents. In Arkansas, the records help determine appropriate child support levels.
“If he does that, we’ll dismiss our motions for contempt so that they’ll be a moot issue,” Lancaster said.
The next pretrial hearing in the case is set for March 13, with the final hearing scheduled for May 13.
As Biden has three children with his first wife and another on the way with his new wife, it is unclear if Biden’s child support to Ms. Roberts will be paid directly by him personally, or whether he is getting financial support from his father or others.
